An IIT-Kanpur graduate, Deepanshu has been passionately pursuing Kangra Kalam, a traditional miniature painting style known for its intricate detailing, vibrant colours and depiction of Indian mythology and nature. He has honed his skills under the guidance of Padma Shri awardee Vijay Sharma from Chamba, who is internationally recognised for his contribution to preserving Himachali miniature art traditions.
Similarly, young artist Jyoti Nath from Chamba has earned national recognition after being selected for the OSOA initiative, where she represented the state’s renowned Chamba Kalam art on a national cultural platform.
Jyoti Nath showcased Chamba Kalam, one of Himachal Pradesh’s most celebrated miniature art traditions known for its intricate detailing, vibrant colours and deep cultural roots. Through her participation, she introduced the unique artistic legacy of Chamba to artists, curators and audiences from different parts of the country.
Cultural enthusiasts in Chamba have described her participation as an encouraging sign that young artists from the hill state are successfully carrying forward centuries-old artistic traditions onto larger national platforms.
Besides Deepanshu and Jyoti, Dhruv Mehta was also selected for the programme and represented the traditional Mandi Kalam art form.
The OSOA initiative was conceptualised by young artist Prakash Garg with the vision of reviving and promoting India’s folk and traditional art forms through youth participation.
