Alka accused the BJP of using the issue for political convenience and electoral benefits, without actually wanting to implement it, and misguiding people. “Parliament had passed the Women Reservation Bill in 2023 and the Central Government had also notified it. The BJP called a special session in the midst of the elections to pass the already passed bill. But now that the elections are over, the BJP will not convene a special session,” she said. OBC women had also been included in the reservation framework, she added.
Alka said that women safety was the other important issue for them. She slammed the BJP for not taking action against their legislator who was facing an FIR in a sexual harassment case. She said that the Mahila Congress would continue to exert pressure for his removal.
She said that the Congress would start identifying and preparing women for a role in Parliament and the Vidhan Sabha in anticipation of the implementation of the reservation law. “We are conducting a talent hunt on 68 Vidhan Sabha seats in Himachal to find women who could be our MLAs and MPs,” she added.
