The deceased was identified as Sita Devi, a resident of Bheroi village. Her son, Darshan Kumar, who was driving the vehicle, suffered injuries and was admitted to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba.
Police said the accident occurred when the mother-son duo was returning home after attending a religious event at Telka. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road while attempting to give way to an oncoming vehicle on the narrow hill road.
Local residents rushed to the spot immediately after witnessing the accident and launched a rescue operation. The injured occupants were taken to a nearby health centre from where they were referred to the medical college in Chamba.
Sita Devi succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while the condition of Darshan Kumar is stated to be stable.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Saklani said police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and initiated an investigation into the incident. The body was handed over to the family after the postmortem examination. He said a case had been registered and further investigation was underway.
