The garden was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Dr Ashok Kumar Panda, who also planted a Ginkgo biloba medicinal tree under the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ plantation initiative. Addressing faculty members and students on the occasion, Dr Panda urged everyone to plant at least one medicinal plant or tree in honour of their mothers and stressed the collective responsibility of conserving the green cover for future generations.
Highlighting the growing importance of medicinal and nutritional plant resources in animal healthcare and sustainable agriculture, the VC said such initiatives would help create awareness among students, researchers and farmers regarding the use and conservation of valuable plant species. He appreciated the dedicated efforts of faculty members Dr Dinesh Sharma, Dr RD Patil and Dr Prashant S Daundkar for developing the garden as a resource-cum-service centre for farming and academic community of the state.
Senior faculty members Dr Pankaj Sood and Dr Adarsh Kumar also participated in the plantation drive. Faculty member Dr Pallavi Bhardwaj, along with college students, actively took part in the plantation and awareness programme.
University authorities stated that the newly established garden would serve as a practical learning platform for veterinary students and researchers by showcasing important medicinal and nutritional plants useful in livestock healthcare and management.
The programme reflected the university’s continued commitment towards environmental conservation, medicinal plant awareness, experiential learning, and strengthening sustainable veterinary education in the region. The plantation campaign conducted under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative also conveyed a strong message about ecological responsibility and the need for preserving biodiversity amid growing environmental challenges.
