The deceased has been identified Ritika (26) from Andhra village in Rohru, Shimla.
The incident occurred on Sunday during the consecration ceremony of a newly constructed temple of a local deity during which people in huge crowd were dancing and celebrating. During the celebration, one person allegedly shot with a firearm and the bullet hit Ritika, triggering panic amongst the people. As a result, she died on the spot while the accused person fled from the scene.
People then informed the police after which a police team from Chirgaon reached the spot. The police then recovered the body which was taken to nearby hospital for postmortem. Police also seized the weapon used in the incident and also interrogated the eye witness and collected crucial evidence from the crime scene.
The accused was also taken into the custody who is now being interrogated.
Confirming the report, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla, Gaurav Singh said a case under section 103 (1) (murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and section 25 (illegal possession of arms) of Indian Arms Act has been registered against the accused in Police Station, Chirgaon, and further investigation is going on.
