Toddler slapped at Shimla school

Acting on a written complaint submitted by the child’s father to the Education Minister and through the Chief Minister’s grievance portal, the department has directed the Block Elementary Education Officer to conduct a probe and submit a report at the earliest.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred after the toddler accidentally defecated on the school premises, following which a JBT teacher allegedly slapped the child. The father has termed the act as unacceptable and traumatic for a child of such tender age.

He further alleged that when he visited the school to raise the issue, the teacher behaved inappropriately in the presence of the principal and allegedly issued threats. The complainant also claimed that the teacher told him not to send the child to school from the next day.

Taking serious note of the allegations, the Education Department has initiated formal proceedings to ascertain the facts. The incident has raised concerns over the handling of young children in schools and adherence to child protection norms.

An unidentified person reportedly targeted her, causing head injuries before fleeing the scene. The girl was later spotted by fellow students, who raised the alarm. She was immediately rushed to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused.
