To dispose of long pending cases, Special Lok Adalat in Supreme Court from August 21 to 23

Sharma said that pre-settlement and conciliation meetings were being organised at multiple levels, including state, district, tehsil and with the High Court legal services authorities as well as at mediation centres. These meetings involved trained mediators, secretaries of legal services authorities, advocates and parties concerned.

Sharma said that litigants could participate in these proceedings either in person or through the virtual mode, making the process more accessible. In Kangra district, the authorities would reach out to the parties involved in cases pending before the Supreme Court and encourage them to opt for an amicable resolution under the initiative. He added that priority would be given to cases where settlement was feasible through mutual consent. These included civil disputes, banking matters, consumer cases, land acquisition disputes, service-related matters, transfer petitions and cases related to the Specific Relief Act and the Transfer of Property Act. Only cases where both parties agree would be taken up during the Special Lok Adalat.

To facilitate participation, a Google Form had been made available to the parties willing to include their cases under the campaign. Interested litigants could apply through the official website of the Supreme Court or via the designated Google Form link. The last date for submission is May 31.

For assistance or further information, parties can contact the Supreme Court’s One Stop Centre at 011-23116464, 011-23116465 and 011-23112428. Besides, the CRP Director can be reached at 011-23225652. “The initiative is expected to strengthen alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and help clear a significant number of pending cases through negotiated settlements,” said Sharma.
