Rathi set the tone for the evening with his hit track ‘Hawa Lagi Chandigarha Ri’, instantly drawing applause and getting the crowd on its feet. He followed with a series of his widely celebrated songs, including ‘Sunita Jhootha Wada Tera’, ‘Nilue Meri Lashtiye’ and ‘Sushma Meri Janniya’ among others. Adding to the festive atmosphere, folk singer Gopal Chaudhary delivered a lively performance of traditional Pahari songs such as ‘Kali Hantie Shoie Nau Dobhi Dwala’ and ‘Lotu Phuala’, encouraging the audience to join in. Emerging artists, including Twinkle, Lal Singh, Sanjay Pujari, Kshitij Sharma and Dhanwanti, also showcased their talent during the programme.
The event was inaugurated by Kullu Deputy Commissioner Anurag Chander Sharma, who attended as the chief guest. He congratulated the organisers of the Pipal Jatar festival and highlighted the role of such events in promoting communal harmony and social cohesion. The proceedings began at 5 pm with a traditional performance by the Surya Cultural Group from Banogi Panchal. The troupe presented the graceful Kullvi nati dance, accompanied by folk songs and the rhythmic beats of dhol and nagadas. Other performers included Ruvani from Dhalpur, Arushi from Anni and Sanjana from Lankabaker, along with Sanaya, Karina, Tashi Thakur, Kanta, Himanshu, Vani Bhardwaj, Khem Raj Thakur and Guddi Devi.
Meanwhile, the festival also saw the inauguration of boxing and volleyball competitions. Kullu Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nishant Thakur flagged off the sporting events, with around 50 boxers participating in the tournament. Matches in the U-19 category are currently under way, alongside the commencement of the women’s volleyball competition.
The SDM encouraged young people to take an active interest in sports and physical activities.
