Tarring of Aut-Luhri highway underway

According to PWD officials, the current phase of the work includes the edge-to-edge tarring of the highway from Ghiyagi to Banjar, ensuring a seamless and durable surface. “The department is carrying out critical patchwork from Aut to Banjar to address immediate safety hazards along the 21-km corridor. The aim is to provide a permanent solution to recurring damage caused to the highway due to heavy monsoonal rain and traffic,” a senior PWD engineer said.

The highway, a vital link connecting Kullu to remote areas like Anni and Nirmand and tourist hotspots such as the Tirthan valley and Jibhi, had been in a shambles for over a decade. Legal petitions citing data from 2020-2025 had revealed that the road witnessed nearly 298 accidents, with multiple fatalities near the Banjar bend.
