Sukhu targets BJP in poll push

Addressing public meetings at Tarna and Sakodi Bridge in Mandi town, Sukhu alleged that the BJP was now trying to remove certain wards from the municipal corporation despite having included them during its own tenure. He claimed that BJP leaders had misled residents during elections and failed to fulfil promises made to the people.

Seeking support for Congress candidates in wards going to polls, the Chief Minister assured voters that adequate funds would be made available for development works if Congress nominees were elected to the municipal corporation.

Highlighting the achievements of the Congress government, Sukhu said restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for nearly 1.36 lakh government employees was among the first decisions taken by his cabinet after assuming office. He described the move as a major step towards ensuring social security and employee welfare.

The Chief Minister also focused on reforms in the education sector, claiming that the quality of education had deteriorated during the previous BJP regime, pushing Himachal Pradesh to the 21st position nationally. He said the Congress government introduced English-medium education from Class I in government schools and initiated teacher recruitment drives to strengthen the education system. According to Sukhu, the state has now improved to the fifth position in educational quality rankings.

Referring to development projects in Mandi, Sukhu said his government had made budgetary provisions for the Shiv Dham project, which he alleged had earlier been announced without financial backing. He added that projects worth around Rs 180 crore were being planned for Mandi town.

Congress state in-charge Rajni Patil targeted the BJP-led Centre over inflation, while Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee chief Vinay Kumar appealed to voters to support Congress candidates for the overall development of Mandi MC. Senior Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur and PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh also campaigned in favour of Congress candidates.
