Solan logs robust 83.84% turnout

The overall voter turnout across 82 panchayats in six development blocks of the district stood at an impressive 83.84 per cent.

Women voters outperformed men in four of the six development blocks. Nalagarh recorded the highest female participation, with 88.51 per cent women casting their votes compared to 85.46 per cent men. In Kandaghat, female turnout stood at 84.71 per cent against 84.01 per cent among men.

Similarly, women registered a marginal lead in Dharampur, where 83.94 per cent women voted compared to 83.84 per cent men. In Kunihar block, women recorded a turnout of 80.14 per cent, significantly higher than the 77.01 per cent turnout among male voters.

Men, however, maintained an edge in Solan and Patta blocks. In Solan block, male turnout stood at 85.42 per cent compared to 83.43 per cent among women, while in Patta block, 83.37 per cent men voted against 83.20 per cent women.

Among the development blocks, Nalagarh recorded the highest overall turnout at 86.95 per cent across its 26 panchayats. Solan block followed with 84.43 per cent turnout in 13 panchayats, while Kandaghat recorded 84.35 per cent and Dharampur 83.89 per cent. Patta block registered 83.29 per cent voting, whereas Kunihar recorded the lowest turnout in the district at 78.56 per cent across its 19 panchayats.

The polling also witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior citizens and first-time voters. Several elderly voters, accompanied by family members, turned up at polling stations to exercise their democratic right.

Among them was 103-year-old Rattan Ram Sharma, the oldest voter in the district, who cast his vote at Parag gram panchayat in Solan block. Centenarian Durga Ram (100) also exercised his franchise at Gharyach in Nalagarh block.

Other elderly voters who drew attention included Heer Dae (86) from Pattanali gram panchayat in Patta block, Gulab Singh (80) from Chamat Barech panchayat, Dwarka Devi (83) from Rori gram panchayat in Dharampur block and Doltu Ram (85) from Parag panchayat in Solan block.

Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma said polling remained peaceful across all 82 panchayats and no untoward incident was reported during the election process.
