The accused have been identified as Akash (25), resident of Phase-1, Ram Darbar Industrial Area, Chandigarh, and Amandeep Singh (29), resident of Hamidpur, Amritsar, Punjab.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla Gaurav Singh said that the involvement of both the accused was found during investigations, which were initiated by the police in two different cases.
“In the first case, which was registered on May 13, 2026, in Dhalli, the district police had arrested two individuals named Nikhil Thakur, an advocate by profession and Sulab Thapa with 11 grams of chitta after which a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 was registered and an investigation was initiated,” he said.
“During the investigation, police analysed digital and financial evidence and also established backward linkages, during which police identified Akash as the main supplier of the contraband. A police team was then dispatched to nab Akash, who had been arrested from Chandigarh,” said the SSP.
“In the second case, which was registered on May 9, 2026, police had arrested three individuals named Rohit Chauhan, Tushar Vera and Praveen Kumar from the Rampur area with 9 g chitta, after which a case was registered and an investigation was initiated,” he said.
The SSP further stated that police analysed financial and digital evidence, after which backward linkages were formed, which led the police to Amandeep, who has also been arrested by the police from Punjab.
The SSP said that further investigation is underway and the involvement of more accused in these networks is being found.
