The Urban Development Department has issued a notification in this regard under the World Bank-assisted Shimla Water Supply and Sewerage Service Delivery Reform Programme. The transfer is intended to strengthen the operational, managerial and financial autonomy of SJPNL and enable it to efficiently operate, maintain, repair, upgrade and replace water supply and sewerage infrastructure across the city.The government has clarified that while the assets will be transferred for operational purposes, they will continue to remain under the administrative control of the Urban Development Department. The SJPNL will exercise only operational possession and management rights over the assets.The notification further states that all expenses related to mutation, transfer documentation and other formalities will be borne by SJPNL.
