Shimla MC to reduce annual hike in garbage collection bills to 5% from next financial year

However, the Mayor said that it was not possible to reduce the garbage collection rate for this year as bills had already been issued but agreed to reduce it from next year. He added that the decision to hike the garbage collection rate by 10 per cent every year was taken back in 2018.

He said that the reason for such a step was that the annual income of the Shimla Environment, Heritage Conservation and Beautification (SEHB) Society was less than its total income, leading to losses.

He added that to control losses, it was decided to implement an annual hike of 10 per cent in garbage collection bills. It was also decided at the meeting that parking spaces that had already been allotted to local residents would now be granted on a long term basis, i.e. for five years instead of on the annual renewal basis. The decision had been taken as people had been facing inconvenience due to the yearly renewal process for which they had to visit the corporation office multiple times.
