The meeting was chaired by Kuldeep Singh Thakur, chairman of the Rajput Kalyan Trust.
In a joint statement, Manch president KS Jamwal, general secretary Vijay Chandel, Brahmin Sabha, Palampur, president Dr Jagmohan Sharma and Kshatriya Sabha general secretary Daulat Chauhan said several important decisions were taken after detailed deliberations on key social and political issues.
The Manch decided that in the upcoming panchayat and urban local body elections, it would support candidates considered capable, experienced, honest and respectable. It also resolved to launch awareness campaigns to mobilise voters in favour of such candidates.
The platform said the option of NOTA could be used, if required, to register dissent against the alleged neglect of the general category by political parties.
On the reservation policy, the Manch demanded implementation of the creamy layer principle within reserved categories to ensure that benefits reached genuinely deprived families. It said that, in accordance with Supreme Court directions, the state government was competent to enact a law in this regard and should act at the earliest.
Expressing concern over the alleged misuse of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the Manch said that if any case was found to be false, the financial assistance granted should be recovered from the complainant and legal action initiated. It also called for a collective social response in such cases.
The meeting also discussed issues related to the UGC and decided to continue protest rallies at the district and state levels after the completion of the election process. Dates and venues would be announced later.
