The DCC chief also took an indirect swipe at Dharamsala MLA Sudhir Sharma.
Addressing a press conference, Sharma said the Congress was fully organised and united. “We are confident of winning in both Dharamsala and Palampur civic bodies,” he said, adding that the party has given representation to both young candidates and experienced leaders.
Highlighting the party’s track record, Sharma said the Congress has maintained a strong presence in local bodies since 2016 and expressed confidence of retaining control. He credited the party for major development works in Dharamsala under the Smart City initiative, stating that projects such as roads, parks, underground cabling and urban infrastructure were initiated by Congress governments.
Without naming anyone, Sharma launched a veiled attack on former minister and BJP’s Dharamsala MLA Sudhir Sharma, accusing him of indulging in personal remarks against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu instead of focusing on development issues. He termed such statements as “against the culture of Himachal Pradesh” and said political discourse should remain centred on public welfare. Asserting that the BJP was a divided house in Dharamsala, Sharma said grassroots workers were being sidelined in favour of “imported leaders”.
Notably, Anurag Sharma was once a close aide of Sudhir Sharma, making his indirect criticism politically significant ahead of the civic polls. Sharma further said that many BJP workers were feeling disillusioned and indicated that the Congress was open to welcoming those who believe in its ideology. “Our doors are open for those who share our principles,” he said.
Sharma said he would raise key concerns of Himachal Pradesh in Parliament, including the restoration of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) and the demand for a special financial package in view of recent natural disasters.
