The state on Sunday witnessed heavy precipitation due to which temperatures across the state dropped by 2°C to 5°C, making the day colder.
According to the state’s Meteorological Department, Palampur in Kangra district recorded 30 mm rain which was the highest in the state, followed by Rampur in Shimla district, which received 29 mm rain. Also, Rohru in Shimla district recorded 25 mm rain. While Shimla received 17 mm rain, Dharamsala, Mandi, Una and Sundernagar all recorded 14 mm rain each.
In Shimla, heavy rainfall and strong winds were observed throughout the day, causing damage to properties. While several trees were uprooted in many areas of the town including Benmore ward, electricity supply remained disrupted in many areas of the town, causing huge inconvenience to the people.
The department has forecast heavy rainfall across the state till May 7 for which orange and yellow warnings have been issued. For May 4, orange warning has been issued for Shimla, Kullu, Kangra, Solan, Mandi and Sirmaur districts, resulting in heavy thunderstorms accompanied with hailstorm, lightning and gusty winds in isolated places of these districts. Similarly, yellow warning has also been issued for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Chamba districts for May 4, resulting in light to moderate thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in isolated places of these districts.
While intense rainfall will continue to occur in the state till May 7, the intensity will gradually decline from May 8 onwards. Minimum temperatures across the state are very likely to drop by 2°C to 3°C in the next 48 hours after which temperatures will rise by 2°C to 4°C. Maximum temperatures will fall by 3°C to 5°C in the next 48 hours, which will also gradually rise by 3°C to 6°C afterwards.
Maximum temperature in Shimla was 18.6°C, Dharamsala 27°C, Manali 16.8°C, Kangra 26.3°C, Mandi 22.6°C, Solan 23°C, Sundernagar 22.1°C, Nahan 27.9°C, Bhuntar 20.3°C and Kalpa 16.3°C.
With 32.8°C maximum temperature, Una was the hottest place in the state while Tabo in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest as it recorded 4.4°C minimum temperature.
