The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has issued an orange alert for Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi and Kullu districts for Friday, warning of hailstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated places. A yellow alert has also been issued for Kangra, Chamba, Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts, where thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated locations.
The weather office has further predicted rain and hailstorm activity on May 30, for which a yellow alert has been issued. Light precipitation is also likely in the middle and higher hills on May 31 and June 1. During this period, minimum temperatures are expected to fall by 2°C to 3°C, while maximum temperatures are likely to decline by 2°C to 6°C, providing relief from the prevailing heat wave conditions.
Weather remained largely dry across the state during the past 24 hours. Minimum temperatures were 2°C to 3°C above normal and ranged between 7°C and 26°C, while maximum temperatures were 2°C to 4°C above normal and ranged between 21°C and 44°C. Among major stations, Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 29°C, Dharamsala 35°C, Kangra 36.8°C, Solan 35.4°C, Mandi 37°C, Sundernagar 37.2°C, Kufri 23.2°C, Kalpa 23.8°C, Nahan 37°C, Chamba 30.8°C and Bhuntar 31.5°C.
Una remained the hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature of 43.2°C, while Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest, recording a minimum temperature of 3.9°C.
