Rain brings sharp 8°C drop in temperature, eases heatwave

According to the India Meteorological Department, light rainfall was recorded at many places, leading to a significant fall in maximum temperatures, with an average dip of around 8°C.

An orange alert has been issued for Shimla, Kullu, Kangra and Mandi districts for April 29, warning of hailstorms, thunderstorms and gusty winds at isolated places. A yellow alert has also been sounded for Solan, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba and Sirmaur districts, indicating the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations.

Shimla recorded a sharp fall of 9.5°C in maximum temperature, while key hill stations such as Manali and Dharamsala witnessed drops of 6.4°C and 6.1°C, respectively. Una, which had been recording temperatures above 40°C over the past few days, saw a steep decline of 9.4°C.

The department has forecast continued rainfall across the state till May 4. During this period, minimum temperatures are likely to fall by 2°C to 4°C, while maximum temperatures may dip further by 2°C to 3°C over the next three to four days.
