According to police, it conducted a special campaign against illicit liquor on Tuesday, during which it seized around 120 bottles of country made liquor from the possession of Paras (24), resident of Khillar Village and Narender Dutt (26), resident of Rayushti village, both in Nerwa, Shimla.
The accused had kept the bottle in a vehicle which was stopped by the police for checking near Riyuni village.
Following the seizure, a case under section 39 (1) (a) (producing, manufacturing, possessing, importing, exporting, or transporting liquor without proper license, permit, or pass) of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act, 2011 was registered and investigation was initiated.
In another incident, police recovered as many as 72 bottles of country liquor from the possession of Arun alias Neetu (38), resident of Matal village in Rajgarh, Sirmour.
The accused was also travelling in a vehicle which was stopped by the police near Pubahal bride in Chopal. Police also seized 65 bottles of country liquor and beer of different brands from Gaurav Thakur (25), resident of Bajarkoti village in Rohru Subdivision, Shimla during checking in Rohru area, following which a case was registered against him.
Additionally, the district police also raided a dhaba in Jais area in Theog, during which they seized 30 bottles of illicit country made liquor.
Police team also seized illicit country liquor from a dhaba in Sabzi Mandi in Shimla. Another raid was conducted by the police in Jutogh area during which it recovered 10 bottles of country liquor from the possession of Ranveer Singh (43), a resident of Majiath.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla, Gaurav Singh confirmed the reports and said cases under section 39 (1)(a) of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act, 2011 have been registered against the accused and further investigation is going on.
