According to a statement issued by the National Health Mission, one of the affected students has fully recovered, while the other is undergoing regular treatment. Officials said the first case was detected on July 9 last year and treatment was initiated the same day. Thirteen close contacts were subsequently put on TB Preventive Treatment (TPT). A second case was reported on December 9, following which treatment was started immediately and three close contacts were placed on preventive therapy.
In total, 16 students identified as close contacts of the two patients, along with one additional contact linked to an external case, are currently undergoing preventive treatment as per Government of India guidelines.
“This preventive treatment is aimed at reducing the risk of developing TB in future. There are no cases of multi-drug resistant TB among them,” the statement said.
Authorities added that both patients were provided financial assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana, along with nutritional support through a Nikshay Mitra. To check further spread, a special active case-finding camp was organised at the hostel on March 6, during which 80 students were screened using a handheld X-ray machine and assessed for TB symptoms.
