As per the orders, a one-way traffic system has been introduced on key routes. The stretch from the Bus Stand-Subhash Chowk-Gandhi Chowk (via Subhash Road) to the Bus Stand (via Guru Nanak Public School Road) will be one way for all vehicles except two-wheelers. Similarly, the route from Subhash Chowk (entry) through Court Road and the Potreyn Road back to the Subhash Chowk (exit) will also remain one way, with exemptions for ambulances, two-wheelers, administrative vehicles and emergency services.
The Deputy Commissioner said, “The entry and exit of heavy vehicles, including tourist and school buses, will be allowed only during fixed hours from 10.30 am to 2 pm and from 6 pm to 7 am. The arrangement has been made to reduce congestion during peak hours. However, some relaxations have been given to school buses. The vehicles of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School will be allowed to operate during specific morning and afternoon hours while the buses of Guru Nanak Public School will be permitted during a fixed morning slot.”
As per the orders, vehicular movement on Garam Sadak will not be allowed between 3.30 pm and 5 pm, except for local residents and tourists visiting hotels in the area. On the Mall Road, the movement of all vehicles from the GPO to the municipal parking area near Bhandari Palace has been completely restricted.
The parking of vehicles will be allowed only at designated places marked with yellow lines along roads such as Thandi Sadak, Potreyn Road, Mall Road, MES Road, Subhash Baoli and the Jandrighat Road. Several road stretches, including parts of the Khajjiar Road, Panchpulla Road and the CB Road, have been declared no-parking zones.
“The maximum speed limit has been fixed at 30 kilometre per hour on permitted roads. Emergency vehicles and those on official duty have been exempted from these restrictions. The orders have come into immediate effect and will remain in force throughout the year,” said Repaswal.
