The meeting, chaired by Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma, brought together police officials from Nurpur, Jawali, Fatehpur and Indora subdivisions. Medical officers from the Health Department, along with representatives of the Education and Tehsil Welfare Departments, also participated virtually.
The session focused on formulating a comprehensive and multi-dimensional plan to curb substance abuse, dismantle drug trafficking networks and address rising concerns over drug-related activities in the district.
Addressing stakeholders, Verma said police had identified 22 highly sensitive gram panchayats prone to drug-related activity. He directed Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) to actively monitor and participate in meetings of panchayat-level drug prevention committees.
Highlighting ongoing efforts, he said district police had conducted awareness workshops in 88 government schools to sensitise students to the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Describing NCORD as a key coordination platform, Verma stressed the need for convergence among departments and agencies tackling the issue. He said the strategy targets both supply and demand reduction.
“On the enforcement side, priority is being given to dismantling drug trafficking networks, identifying and prosecuting peddlers, and strengthening intelligence-sharing mechanisms. At the same time, sustained efforts are underway to reduce demand through awareness campaigns, preventive education and community engagement,” he said.
He added that departments such as Education, Health, and Social Justice and Empowerment were playing an important role in raising awareness among young people and the wider public.
Special emphasis is also being placed on rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals affected by drug dependency. This includes facilitating admission to de-addiction centres, ensuring adequate facilities and closely monitoring their functioning.
