Mob fury: Truck driver alleges assault, vandalism after Kullu highway collision

The incident occurred during rainfall when slippery road conditions reportedly led to a collision between a truck (HP-24-D-4787) and a car (HP-58-6451).

According to the complaint lodged by the truck driver, what initially began as a verbal altercation following the accident soon turned violent. He alleged that the car driver summoned several acquaintances to the spot, who then attacked him and damaged the truck.

The complainant claimed that the group pelted the vehicle with stones, smashed its windows and other parts, physically assaulted him and allegedly threatened to kill him.

The truck driver has submitted photographs and video footage of the incident to the police, which have been taken into possession as part of the investigation. Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of law and initiated a probe into the matter.

Confirming the development, Kullu Superintendent of Police Madan Lal Kaushal said statements of both parties were being recorded and all available evidence was being examined. “We are recording statements from both sides and examining the available evidence. Further action will be taken on the basis of facts that emerge during the investigation,” he said.

The incident has once again raised concerns over public reactions to road accidents and the tendency of some individuals to resort to violence instead of allowing legal authorities to handle disputes. Police said further action would be taken after completion of the investigation.
