Chairing a meeting to review preparations for the annual fair, the Deputy Commissioner said the historic event was not only a major cultural celebration of Chamba district but also a symbol of the region’s rich heritage, communal harmony and brotherhood among different sections of society.
He stressed that maintaining the traditional essence of the fair was a collective responsibility of all departments and stakeholders associated with its organisation.
Repaswal instructed departments concerned to discharge their assigned responsibilities with sincerity and seriousness to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the fair. He said the administration would focus on better management and improved facilities for visitors while retaining the cultural significance of the event.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that the International Minjar Fair-2026 would be organised from July 26 to August 2 at the historic Chowgan ground in Chamba, in keeping with tradition.
During the meeting, directions were issued regarding arrangements for cultural programmes, transport facilities, traffic regulation and parking management during the fair. Officials were also asked to ensure proper sanitation, uninterrupted drinking water and electricity supply, health and medical services, and cleanliness at the Chowgan ground.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed preparations related to sports competitions, invitation cards and publication of the souvenir, besides discussing expenditure and revenue management for the event. Special emphasis was laid on repair and maintenance works at Kala Kendra and Manjari Garden ahead of the fair.
Repaswal further directed the officials concerned to finalise an appropriate theme for Minjar Fair-2026 reflecting the cultural identity and traditions of the district.
Officials from various departments attended the meeting and reviewed preparations related to their respective sectors to ensure timely completion of all arrangements before the commencement of the fair.
