The campaign places strong emphasis on source segregation, urging households and institutions to separate waste into three categories — wet, dry and domestic hazardous. Through structured workshops, and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities, students and teachers are being sensitised about the importance of reducing waste, reusing materials and adopting recycling practices as part of daily life.
A key highlight of the initiative is experiential learning. Students are being taken on visits to waste processing sites, where they gain first-hand understanding of waste segregation, treatment and disposal mechanisms. These visits are designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation.
Schools are also actively contributing to public awareness through creative mediums. Activities such as nukkad nataks, model-making and exhibitions are being organised to educate citizens about the harmful effects of littering and open dumping. These efforts are helping extend the campaign’s reach beyond school campuses into the wider community.
Digital engagement has emerged as a powerful tool in the campaign. Students are producing short videos and social media reels to spread awareness about cleanliness and responsible waste management. To maintain momentum and encourage healthy competition, the MC has announced inter-school competitions, recognising institutions that demonstrate exemplary commitment to cleanliness and innovation. Special awards will also be presented for digital content that garners the highest engagement in terms of views, likes and comments.
Mandi Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rohit Rathour stressed that the goal of the campaign is to bring about lasting behavioural change. By engaging students as ambassadors of cleanliness, the initiative seeks to ensure that awareness reaches every household within the municipal limits.
“With growing participation and innovative outreach strategies, the campaign is steadily transforming into a community-driven movement — paving the way for a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Mandi,” he remarked.
