Additional District and Sessions Judge-II, Kangra, Sheetal Sharma convicted Sunil Kumar in a murder case registered at Shahpur police station in June 2021 and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for life. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on June 22, 2021, in Machhayal village under Shahpur tehsil. The case came to light after Kushalta Devi informed the police that she had heard unusual noises coming from a room where her husband was present.
When she entered the room, she allegedly found her son, Sunil Kumar, standing near his father while holding an axe-like iron weapon. She immediately raised an alarm and informed the police and local residents.
A police team that reached the spot found the victim lying dead inside the room with severe facial injuries. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and initiated an investigation.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 25 witnesses and produced documentary as well as scientific evidence before the court. After evaluating the evidence, the court held that the prosecution had proved the charge of murder beyond reasonable doubt.
Accordingly, the court convicted Sunil Kumar and awarded him life imprisonment along with a monetary penalty.
