Lahaul lad in India U-18 ice hockey team

Tashi’s selection marks a significant milestone not only for him but also for the region, which has been steadily gaining recognition in winter sports. His achievement follows the path set by Tanzin Saldon, who earlier represented India in the women’s category, underscoring the growing presence of athletes from the high-altitude region on the international stage.

The Ice Hockey Association Lahaul and Spiti (IHALS) expressed pride in Tashi’s selection through its official social media channels. In a statement, the association announced it would provide partial sponsorship support to assist the young athlete in his journey, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing local talent representing the country.

“This is a moment of great pride for us. We stand behind our athletes as they strive to achieve excellence and bring recognition to the country,” the statement said.

Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana also congratulated Tashi, calling his selection a matter of pride for the region. She noted that the player, who hails from Losar village in Spiti Valley, has brought honour not only to the district but to the entire state.

She praised his dedication and hard work, adding that his success reflects his perseverance and commitment to the sport. She also extended congratulations and best wishes to the Ice Hockey Association Lahaul and Spiti, coaches and fellow players for their role in developing young talent.

Tashi’s journey from the remote Himalayan region to the national squad stands as an inspiring example of determination and passion, highlighting the emergence of winter sports talent from India’s high-altitude areas.
