Kullu tightens security, imposes traffic curbs ahead of President Murmus visit

To facilitate smooth VVIP movement, authorities have announced a complete restriction on vehicular traffic from Palchan Bridge to the South Portal of the Atal Tunnel on April 29. The restriction will remain in place until 12 noon or until the conclusion of the President’s visit. During this period, all vehicles heading towards Palchan Bridge will be diverted via Gulaba. Additionally, traffic moving from Vashisht Chowk towards Rohtang will be halted and redirected towards the Vashisht area.

Kullu District Magistrate Anurag Chander Sharma has urged residents and tourists to adhere strictly to the guidelines and extend full cooperation to ensure effective traffic regulation and public safety during the high-profile visit.

In a parallel move, the administration has imposed a blanket ban on all aerial activities on April 28 and 29 in and around the Atal Tunnel and the President’s stay zone. Enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the ban covers drones, UAVs, paragliding, hot air balloons and all similar airborne operations.

Further, all excavation, digging and trenching activities along the President’s route and nearby areas have been prohibited to protect underground communication infrastructure and avoid disruptions.

The administration has called on all departments, agencies and citizens to comply fully, emphasising that coordinated efforts are crucial to maintaining security while minimising inconvenience to the public.
