Superintendent of Police Ashok Ratan, exercising powers under Section 112(2) of the Himachal Pradesh Police Act, 2007, authorised all police officers deployed on IPL duty, not below the rank of Sub-Inspector, to issue directions to the public and regulate traffic movement in and around Dharamsala Municipal Corporation limits.
The order empowers police officials to erect temporary barricades, divert traffic, regulate pedestrian movement and implement one-way traffic arrangements around the stadium, parking areas, bus stops and places of stay connected with the IPL matches.
The SP said the elaborate arrangements had been made to ensure smooth traffic flow and avoid congestion during the matches. “The traffic regulation plan has been prepared in the interest of public safety and convenience. People are requested to cooperate with police personnel and follow the notified routes and parking arrangements during the IPL matches,” he said.
According to the order, emergency vehicles and ambulances will be allowed unrestricted movement on all roads at all times. No idle parking will be permitted on roads within the specified areas during match days.
The movement of heavy vehicles, except essential service providers and route buses, will remain restricted in Dharamsala and McLeodganj six hours before the match. It will only be allowed to resume two hours after the completion of the game. Volvo buses travelling between Dharamsala and Gaggal will be diverted via Sakoh and barred from using the Dari route to reduce congestion. Routine buses will not be allowed to board or de-board passengers between Red Cross Chowk and the Education Board bus stop.
Police have also designated temporary shuttle bus stops at Trends Mall Dharamsala and near the exit gate of the Police Ground to facilitate spectators travelling to the stadium.
Vehicles arriving from different directions, including Chamunda, Kangra, Gaggal and McLeodganj, have been assigned specific parking locations. Special arrangements have also been made for VIP vehicles, media personnel and vehicles holding stadium access passes. Media vehicles will be parked at the Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) ground, while VIP-I vehicles will be accommodated at Sai Ground parking.
