Providing the information, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shimla, Anupam Kashyap said the painting and art exhibition will be inaugurated at The Ridge on June 1, in which renowned painters and artists from across the country will capture the city’s natural beauty, historical landmarks and cultural heritage on their canvases.

“Under this initiative, artists will visit prominent locations in and around the state’s capital and will observe its natural surroundings and heritage buildings and will create their sketches, which will then be showcased to the people. Following this, the artists will also go on a tour of the Spiti Valley to depict the breathtaking landscapes of the Himalayan region. The aim is to showcase the state’s culture and heritage to a larger audience through art as well as to encourage cultural exchange,” he said.
He said the exhibition will feature artists from Pune, Jodhpur, Visakhapatnam, Assam and Shimla, among other regions. “Participating artists include Shirish Deshpande, Manoj Soman, Sandeep Khedka, Nitin Mahamuni, Mahendra Kondekar, Suhasini M Kondekar, Radha Soman, Vinita Purohit Lohara, Gulzar Hussain, Sai Manikiran Veduruparthi, Vamsi Kiran Paila, Debopriya Bezbaruah, Nakshdeep Singh and Rajendra Mehta,” added the DC.
Informing about ‘shyamala kavi sammelan’ and ‘shyamala mushaira’, DC said these two special events will be dedicated to language, literature and culture and will be organised at the historic Gaiety Theatre.
“The aim of these events is to provide a platform for Himachal Pradesh’s rich literary traditions, encourage local writers and poets and connect the younger generation with literature and creative expression,” he said.
DC Kashyap said the kavi sammelan will be held on June 8 and 9 from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm at Gaiety Theatre. “It will feature local poets who will recite their works in both Hindi and Pahadi languages. The program will also include literary discussions and interactive sessions. Senior literary figures as well as emerging writers will have the opportunity to showcase their talent on the same platform,” he said.
The DC also added that ‘shyamala mushaira’ will be organised on June 10, 2026, from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm. “This special literary event will feature renowned poets and emerging writers presenting Urdu poetry, ghazals, nazms and other literary works. The mushaira aims not only to honour the rich tradition of Urdu literature but also to celebrate the diverse dimensions of language and culture,” he said.
