Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajeshwar Singh Chandel inaugurated the meet. He emphasised the importance of extracurricular activities in shaping well-rounded individuals and fostering qualities essential for personal and professional success. He highlighted how sports nurtured leadership, teamwork, time management and decision-making skills and encouraged students to pursue sports not only competitively but also as a lifelong habit for maintaining physical and mental well-being.
HP Sankhyan, Dean of Students’ Welfare, emphasised the value of sportsmanship and encouraged students to embrace the broader life lessons that come through engagement in athletics. This year, students are participating in a range of events such as 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1,500 m, 3,000 m, 5,000 m and 10,000 m races, along with relays. Field events included shot put, javelin throw, discus throw, long jump, high jump and triple jump. Team sports such as football, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, badminton, table tennis and chess are also being organised while kho-kho and cricket have been introduced this year. Cumulative scores of all events will determine the overall championship winners.
In a dominant display in the team events, the College of Horticulture defeated the Thunag college in the women’s kabaddi final by 51-15. In men’s kabaddi, the College of Horticulture defeated the Thunag college while the Neri college beat the College of Forestry to set up a final clash with the College of Horticulture. In men’s basketball, the Neri college defeated the College of Forestry while the College of Horticulture beat the Thunag college and the final will now be played between the Neri college and the College of Horticulture. In women’s basketball, the College of Horticulture defeated the Neri college while the College of Forestry beat the Thunag college. In men’s cricket, the College of Horticulture beat the Neri college while the College of Forestry triumphed over the Thunag college. In women’s cricket, the Thunag college defeated the Neri college while the College of Forestry beat the College of Horticulture.
In the individual women’s events, Ishita of the College of Horticulture secured the first place in the 500 m race while Harshita and Manvi of the College of Forestry stood second and third respectively. In the 1,500m race, Diipanshi of the College of Forestry stood first, Kshma of the College of Horticulture second and Sujhani of the Thunag college third.
In shot put, Ridhi of Thunag college came first while Aastha of the College of Horticulture and Garima of the College of Forestry stood second and third. In javelin throw, Aarushi from College of Forestry secured the first place, followed by Ridhi of Thunag college and Sakshi of horticulture college. In the 100 m race, Manya of the College of Forestry came first while Muskaan and Navdeep of the Thunag college stood second and third, respectively. In discus throw, Harshit of the College of Forestry stood first while Aarushi of the College of Forestry and Anriya of the Thunag college came second and third.
In the men’s individual events, Anish of the Neri college secured the first place in discus throw while Prateek and Pushkar of the College of Forestry came second and third, respectively. In the 200 m race, Harnam of the College of Horticulture stood first, followed by Arsh of the College of Forestry and Avesh of the Neri college. In the 5,000 m race, Vrishank Thakur of the College of Forestry secured the first place while Vikram Singh of the Neri college and Tejas of the College of Horticulture came second and third, respectively. In javelin throw, Prashant of the College of Forestry stood first while Avishakar and Anish of the Neri college secured the second and third places. In the 800 m race, Abhishek and Ram Babu of the College of Forestry secured the first two positions while Yajur of the College of Horticulture came third. In shot put, Pushkar and Sagar of the College of Forestry bagged the top two positions while Chandan of the College Horticulture came third. In the 1,500 m race, Abhishek of the College of Forestry came first, followed by Vikram of the Neri college and Anshwan of the College of Forestry in the third place.
