According to the complaint filed by Rohit Kumar, a jail warder at the Kishanpura sub-jail, the incident took place while he was on surveillance duty when inmates Suryatej, Deepak, Sunil, Gurcharan and Gagan allegedly ganged up and attacked him.
Kumar sustained injuries to his head and back as the inmates allegedly overpowered and repeatedly assaulted him. The complaint further stated that when havildar Nandlal tried to intervene and rescue him, the inmates assaulted him as well, leaving him injured. As the situation turned grave, other personnel on duty arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
It is alleged that, apart from obstructing official duty, the inmates also issued death threats to the policemen.
A case has been registered at the Manpura police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prisons Act for allegedly attacking a jail warder on duty, based on a complaint filed by the injured policemen. Further investigation into the matter was underway, said Baddi SP Vinod Dhiman.
Most of the accused inmates are lodged under preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act.
