Injured leopard rescued from Paonta Sahib forest

Some local residents passing through the area noticed the leopard trapped in the khad and immediately informed the Forest Department. The animal was seriously injured and was behaving aggressively due to pain.

On receiving information, Forest Department officials and the field staff rushed to the spot. Bhagani Range Forest Office staff and Rapid Response Team members also reached the site to supervise the rescue operation. The area was cordoned off a precautionary measure and efforts to safely capture the leopard were started. Officials said that the operation proved difficult as the injured animal had become very aggressive. The leopard was later tranquilised and successfully rescued after several hours of efforts.

Meanwhile, a large number of people gathered at the spot, prompting police personnel from Singhpura to keep them at a safe distance. Forest officials suspected the leopard may have been injured after being hit by a vehicle while crossing road during the night, though the exact cause of the injuries was yet to be ascertained. After rescue, the leopard was shifted to a veterinary hospital for preliminary treatment. Forest officials said that the animal may later be referred to a state veterinary facility for specialised care.
