Prof Gaur said the two-year programme is designed to combine the analytical strength of mathematics with modern computing and programming skills. Students will study subjects such as linear algebra, probability, data structures and algorithms, database management systems, machine learning, cryptography and parallel computing along with project-based learning aimed at solving real-world problems.
In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the programme also provides an exit option after the first year with a diploma qualification, he said.
The Director said with the rapid rise of data-driven industries, the technical landscape requires innovators who understand the core mathematical concepts and algorithmic logic, not just software execution. He said the new programme will arm students with specialised, cross-disciplinary problem-solving skills that open elite career paths in data science, quantum computing and high-frequency trading.
Prof Gaur added that admissions to the programme are being conducted through the centralised counseling for MSc and MSc (Tech) courses based on IIT Joint Admission Test for Masters, held in February and the counselling process is currently underway.
He said the programme will begin within a couple of weeks at the institute with an intake of 30 students.
