Hoteliers, traders made aware of Income Tax Act, 2025 at Dalhousie

The programme was held under the aegis of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-1, Chandigarh, Shalini Bhargava Kaushal (IRS), and Income Tax Commissioner, Shimla Range, Shridhar Dora (IRS). The camp was specifically organised for the members of the hotel association, trade bodies and prominent taxpayers of the region to enhance clarity and ensure better compliance with the new law.

Income Tax Officer, Dalhousie, Vineet Kumar, outlined the objective of the camp and highlighted the department’s outreach initiatives. He elaborated on major structural changes introduced in the new law, including the revised tax slabs and rates, updated definitions, rationalised exemptions and deductions, simplified compliance procedures, return filing mechanisms, digital assessment systems and transition timelines. Special emphasis was laid on issues relevant to the hospitality sector such as the management of business income, presumptive taxation provisions, implications of TDS/TCS and record-keeping requirements.

The Principal Chief Commissioner elaborated on the intent behind the new Act and stressed simplification, a taxpayer-centric approach and reduction in litigation. She highlighted the importance of voluntary compliance and urged businesses and professionals to update their systems in line with the new provisions. She assured the participants of continued support from the department during the transition phase. She emphasised the need for a constructive dialogue between taxpayers and the administration to address practical challenges.

The participants raised queries on various aspects such as capital gains provisions, carry forward of losses, applicability to partnership firms and the transition of past assessments. The chief guest addressed the queries and assured necessary assistance, wherever required.

The participants appreciated the initiative taken by the department in organising the camp in Dalhousie and welcomed the clarity provided on the Income Tax Act, 2025. They also assured the department of full cooperation in ensuring compliance and disseminating information among their members.
