Hot air balloon set to add colour to festival

As part of the initiative, officials conducted a successful test of the hot air balloon in Shimla on Saturday. A district administration official said the move was aimed at highlighting the untapped tourism potential of various areas of the district and providing greater visibility to emerging adventure activities.

“Hot air ballooning is gradually gaining popularity in the Sunni region of Shimla district, but many tourists are still unaware of the activity. The district administration, therefore, decided to showcase a hot air balloon during the upcoming Summer Festival to promote the initiative and attract visitors,” the official said.

The administration believes that introducing such attractions during the festival could help diversify the tourism experience and encourage visitors to explore lesser-known destinations within the district.

However, officials clarified that a final decision on whether tourists will be allowed to participate in the activity during the festival is yet to be taken. “The matter is under consideration and the committee concerned will take a decision in the coming days,” the official added.

The International Summer Festival is one of Shimla’s major annual events and attracts thousands of tourists and local residents with its cultural programmes, exhibitions and entertainment activities. The proposed inclusion of hot air ballooning is expected to add a new attraction to this year’s festivities.
