Himachals first: Shimla Municipal Corporation begins switch to e-fleet

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday flagged off 10 electric waste collection vehicles of the Shimla MC from the state secretariat.(He said trial runs of the vehicles were conducted from November 10 to 14 last year, during which they performed successfully in the city’s terrain and operating conditions.

Each vehicle has a waste collection capacity of one tonne and has been procured at a cost of Rs 13.98 lakh. Charging infrastructure has also been set up at the Shimla MC parking facility. On a full charge, each vehicle can cover a distance of 130 to 150 km, he added.

The CM said the initiative is part of the government’s push to promote e-mobility, as outlined in its first budget. He added that such measures would contribute significantly to making Himachal a green state.

He also noted that the shift to electric vehicles would help reduce operational costs for the MC amid rising fuel prices.

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani, Principal Adviser (Media) Naresh Chauhan, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal and other officials were present on the occasion.
