Participants opting for self-enumeration will receive a unique Self-Enumeration (SE) ID, which they can later share with enumerators during the physical verification process. This hybrid approach aims to improve data accuracy while ensuring greater privacy and convenience for citizens.
To prepare for the extensive exercise, a three-day training programme commenced in Nahan, focusing on equipping officials with both technical and practical knowledge. Around 30 field trainers assigned to Sirmaur district are undergoing detailed orientation on the digital systems and operational framework.
Director of Census Operations Deepshikha Sharma highlighted that this initiative marks a significant shift in how census data will be collected in India. Citizens will be able to use the HLO mobile application or access the web portal to submit their details digitally. The subsequent phase, involving house listing and physical surveys, will be conducted between June 16 and July 15.
Officials emphasised that the data collected through the census forms the backbone of national planning and policy formulation. Principal Census Officer and Deputy Commissioner Sirmaur Priyanka Verma underlined the importance of accurate data submission, assuring that all information will be kept strictly confidential.
It is noteworthy that the 16th Census, originally scheduled for 2021, was postponed indefinitely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The upcoming digital exercise is now expected to bridge that gap while introducing a more efficient and transparent system.
