According to data from the Himachal police, Mandi district reported the highest number of accidents this year, with 85 cases. Sirmaur emerged as the second worst-affected district with 64 accidents.
Shimla recorded 57 accidents, followed by Kullu (49), Kangra (46), Una (45), Police District Baddi (43), Solan (38), Bilaspur (36), Police District Dehra (19), Chamba (15), Hamirpur and Police District Nurpur (13 each) and Kinnaur (9).
The tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti witnessed only three road accidents, making it the district with the least number of mishaps for the second consecutive year.
In comparison, Shimla had recorded the highest number of accidents during the corresponding period in 2025, with 55 cases, followed by Sirmaur (53), Mandi (44), Kullu (40), Una (38), Bilaspur (35), Solan (33), Police District Baddi (28), Kangra (27), Police District Nurpur (18), Hamirpur and Police District Dehra (13 each), Chamba (10), Kinnaur (6) and Lahaul and Spiti (2).
Police officials said several measures were being undertaken to curb road accidents in the state. These include the implementation of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), under which AI-based cameras are being used for surveillance across Himachal.
According to the police, the cameras are helping detect overspeeding, drunken driving and other traffic violations. The department is also identifying accident-prone black spots across the state and conducting special enforcement drives against traffic offences.
“Awareness campaigns are also being organised to educate people about traffic violations and ways to avoid accidents,” police officials said.
Earlier this year, the police had also imposed a ban on the use of high-beam lights in vehicles. The police have appealed to motorists to follow traffic rules and refrain from offences such as drunken driving, overspeeding and rash driving to help reduce road accidents.
