Himachal Pradesh University to implement courses aligned with NEP from new session

The decision was approved by the Executive Council and the Secretary (Education) and was later endorsed by the Standing Committee of the Academic Council of the university during its meeting, which was held on May 5. An official notification regarding this decision has been issued by the university.

Along with this, the university has also approved the HPU Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes and updated Guidelines for Examination and Grading in accordance with the new education policy.

Gian Sagar Negi, Registrar, HPU, said that under the revised framework, the university has introduced updated guidelines related to internships and apprenticeships, research projects and dissertations, field-based learning and minor projects, as well as community outreach programmes.

“The Standing Committee has also approved a revised structure and evaluation scheme for various academic components, including Discipline Specific Courses (DSC), Discipline Specific Electives (DSE), Minor Courses (MC), Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC), Value Addition Courses (VAC), and Add-on Courses (AOC)” he said.

“In addition, revised guidelines for SWAYAM/MOOCs and Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) have also been notified as part of the new framework,” he added.

The Registrar further stated that the updated rules, regulations, and academic guidelines will come into effect from the first semester of the next academic session. He also advised the students to visit the university’s official website for more information, as detailed information regarding the implementation of the policy has been made available on the website.

In April, the university had issued a notification regarding the adoption of a semester system for all undergraduate courses in its affiliated colleges in the state from the academic session 2026-27, thus putting an end to the annual system. The step came after the approval of the state government.

The Secretary (Education) had also stated that the policy will be implemented in the university in a phased manner.
