Himachal Pradesh University expands focus on skills and innovation

Prof Singh said the university is focusing on skill-based education, research, innovation and employability to provide students with quality, future-ready learning opportunities. New initiatives have been launched in emerging fields such as cyber security, artificial intelligence, defence studies, agricultural economics, energy research and disaster risk reduction. The university also plans to strengthen its placement cell to improve employment opportunities for students.

Reviewing the achievements of the past year, the Vice-Chancellor described it as a period of significant progress, innovation and institutional strengthening. HPU established five new Centres of Excellence — the Centre for Green Energy and Nanotechnology, Himalayan Centre for Management of Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience, Centre for Pahari Culture and Heritage, Ramanujan Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems and Indian Mathematics, and Centre for Artificial Intelligence on Cyber-Physical Systems. These centres are expected to promote advanced research in green energy, disaster management, cultural heritage, Indian knowledge traditions and artificial intelligence.

The university also signed several national and international MoUs and secured major research funding, including a Rs 10-crore PAIR project under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), a Rs 60-lakh Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant and a Rs 4.15-crore AI-enabled Solar PV Research Ecosystem project funded by SJVN Ltd.
