Himachal MC polls: BJP, Congress pull out all stops in Mandi as poll din ends

Senior leaders of both parties remained actively engaged throughout the day, holding roadshows, public meetings and door-to-door campaigns across different wards of the town in a bid to sway undecided voters in what has emerged as a high-profile urban political contest in Himachal Pradesh.

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur spearheaded the BJP’s campaign in Mandi and concluded the party’s electioneering with a massive roadshow through the town. Accompanied by BJP candidates, party workers and senior leaders, Thakur visited several wards before addressing a public gathering.

Targeting the Congress government, Thakur claimed that there was widespread public resentment against the ruling dispensation in Himachal Pradesh. He expressed confidence that the BJP would register a decisive victory not only in Mandi but also in the municipal corporations of Palampur, Dharamshala and Solan.

The BJP leader alleged that the Congress government had failed to fulfil the promises and guarantees made to the people, leading to growing dissatisfaction among voters. He also accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of violating the Model Code of Conduct by allegedly announcing financial incentives for wards electing Congress councillors.

Thakur said the BJP would approach the Election Commission seeking action over the alleged violation.

On the other hand, Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh led the Congress campaign through extensive public outreach and door-to-door programmes in various wards of the municipal corporation area.

Appealing to residents to elect Congress candidates, Vikramaditya said the party was committed to ensuring balanced urban development and strengthening civic infrastructure in Mandi. During interactions with voters, he highlighted the developmental initiatives undertaken by the state government and asserted that Congress councillors would work in close coordination with the government to improve roads, public services and urban amenities.

With both parties mounting intense campaigns till the final hours, the Mandi Municipal Corporation elections are being closely watched as an important political battle in the state.
