Himachal: Kinnaur bird festival takes flight in Kalpa

The festival saw enthusiastic participation from locals, environmentalists, bird experts, photographers, artists and tourists. The festival’s primary objective is to raise awareness about the diverse bird species, biodiversity and conservation of natural heritage in the Kinnaur region.

A variety of cultural, educational and recreational activities were organised on the first day of the festival. Musical performances, workshops on environmental and bird conservation, poetry readings, photo exhibitions, souvenir stalls, fun games, food stalls and a special display of local cuisine were highlights. Local delicacies and traditional products were also prominently displayed, promoting the region’s rich cultural identity.

The three-day festival provides 30 young students an opportunity to develop curiosity and awareness about the natural world through fun-based learning activities. This initiative aims to engage children in practical and creative ways with respect to nature, birds, and environmental conservation.

Kinnaur DC Amit Sharma visited various exhibitions and stalls. He commended the organisers’ efforts, noting that Kinnaur holds a special place nationwide for its natural beauty, rare wildlife and bird diversity. “Such events not only raise awareness about environmental conservation but also provide a new direction to local tourism,” he said.
