The move comes days after advocates staged a major protest outside the Secretariat against police objections to their use of the road without the requisite permits. The standoff ended after Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met the protesting lawyers and assured them that a committee would be formed to find a solution to the issue.According to a government notification, the committee will hold consultations with the authorities concerned and other stakeholders and recommend measures necessary for a practical and long-term resolution of the matter. The panel has been asked to submit its report within seven days of its constitution.Advocate General Anup Rattan has been appointed chairman of the committee, while Ashish Singhmar, Secretary, General Administration Department (GAD), will serve as its convener. The committee also includes senior advocates, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Shimla Deputy Commissioner and Shimla Superintendent of Police among its members. The issue relates to access restrictions on roads leading to the HC, which lawyers contend are essential for their daily movement and professional work.
