Himachal ex-CM Jai Ram Thakur confident of BJP retaining Mandi MC

Addressing a press conference with candidates from all 15 wards, Thakur said the BJP enjoys deep-rooted support in Mandi and will secure a decisive mandate. He accused the state government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of discriminating against the district, alleging that this has led to widespread dissatisfaction among residents.

Thakur claimed that people of Mandi are prepared to deliver a strong response through the ballot, citing what he described as consistent neglect and unfair treatment. He further alleged that development funds worth Rs 15 crore, sanctioned during the previous BJP regime, were withdrawn after the change in government, hampering key projects in the area.

Criticising the Congress government’s tenure, he said the past three-and-a-half years have been marked by disappointment and governance failures. He pointed to recent remarks by senior Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur as evidence that even leaders within the ruling party have begun acknowledging shortcomings.

He maintained that the ongoing Municipal Corporation and panchayat elections would serve as a precursor to a broader political movement against the Congress government. According to him, the outcome of these polls will lay the groundwork for a larger campaign to unseat the government in the Assembly elections due next year.

Thakur also cautioned government officials against violating rules under political pressure, warning of consequences in the future. In a sharp remark, he questioned the Chief Minister’s leadership, alleging that his political track record reflects inefficiency.

Congratulating the BJP’s performance in other states, Thakur lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president Nitin Nabin, while extending greetings to the people of West Bengal and Assam.

Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Monday celebrated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s electoral victories in three Assembly elections at Seri Manch in Mandi district, distributing sweets and joining party workers in celebrations.

Addressing mediapersons, Thakur attributed the victories to public confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development-oriented leadership.

He alleged that voters had rejected corruption and violence, particularly in West Bengal, and endorsed the BJP’s governance model.

Thakur also congratulated senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah and JP Nadda, as well as party workers and supporters for securing what he described as a decisive mandate.
