In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the board will embed QR codes on all Class X and XII certificates from the 2025-26 academic session. Once scanned, the code will provide access to a student’s academic record from the board’s official database, enabling institutions to verify authenticity within seconds.
Board Secretary Vishal Sharma said the initiative leverages blockchain technology to ensure a high level of security and reliability.
“The primary objective is to simplify verification during admissions and job applications while preventing tampering and forgery,” he said.
Upon scanning the QR code, users will be redirected to the board’s website, where, after payment of the prescribed fee, a verification certificate will be generated instantly.
The move is expected to significantly curb the use of fake certificates, as each document will be linked to secure digital records, making manipulation extremely difficult. It will also streamline verification processes for colleges, universities, government departments and foreign institutions, where authentication often takes considerable time.
This year, a total of 1,74,975 students, including 93,564 from Class X and 81,411 from Class XII, appeared for the examinations and will be issued certificates under the enhanced system.
Describing it as a step towards improving transparency, trust and efficiency, Sharma said the initiative will offer students a faster and more reliable way to validate their academic credentials.
In another reform, the board will release the final answer key for MCQ-based questions of Class X and XII examinations at least two days before the declaration of results to ensure transparency. The move follows last year’s controversy over incorrect answer keys, after which all objections received till April 5 this year were reviewed by subject experts before finalisation.
The board has also been advancing broader reforms aimed at creating a more transparent, student-centric and technology-driven education system. These include the introduction of 360-degree evaluation to assess students beyond rote learning, as well as strengthening continuous and comprehensive evaluation practices to reduce exam stress and promote consistent learning.
Officials said digitisation of records and the integration of secure verification systems are key steps towards curbing malpractice and enhancing the credibility of the examination process.
