Being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 225 crore, the plant will initially process 1.5 lakh litres of milk per day, with plans to scale up capacity to 3 lakh litres daily in the future. During his visit, Sukhu expressed dissatisfaction over delays and lapses in construction, directing officials to adhere strictly to prescribed norms and timelines.
The Chief Minister said the facility would manufacture a range of dairy products, including paneer, butter and ice cream, and would directly benefit farmers across Kangra, Una, Hamirpur and Chamba districts. He emphasised that the project would not only strengthen agricultural income streams but also generate employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth, contributing to an improved standard of living.
Reaffirming the government’s focus on rural development, Sukhu highlighted that Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in the country to provide a minimum support price (MSP) for milk. He noted that MSP for cow milk has been increased to Rs 61 per litre and for buffalo milk to Rs 71 per litre.
He also underscored efforts to promote natural farming and ensure the availability of chemical-free produce. The government, he said, has raised MSPs for naturally grown crops, including wheat (Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kg), maize (Rs 40 to Rs 50 per kg), barley from Pangi valley (Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kg), and turmeric (Rs 90 to Rs 150 per kg). Additionally, an MSP of Rs 30 per kg has been introduced for ginger for the first time.
Sukhu said these measures are aimed at significantly enhancing farmers’ incomes while reinforcing the rural economy.
