Himachal: 4 Chamba cops suspended over ‘irregularities’ in missing girl case

According to the case details, a resident of Churah subdivision had lodged a complaint at the women police station on April 7 alleging that a youth had lured his minor daughter and taken her away. The police traced their location to Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The four police officials were in the team that located the minor girl and the youth and brought them back to Chamba. However, the operation later came under scrutiny after the girl and her family members allegedly complained against the conduct of the police team.

The girl’s parents submitted a complaint to higher police officials, accusing the team members of influencing their daughter’s statement by intimidating her. They also accused the police team of failing to follow standard legal procedures during the investigation and recovery process.

A preliminary inquiry was subsequently initiated during which procedural irregularities reportedly came to light. Additional SP Dinesh Sharma said that cases involving minor girls required strict adherence to legal procedures and sensitive handling by police officials. “Based on complaints received and facts that emerged during the preliminary inquiry, the police personnel concerned have been suspended. A departmental inquiry is underway and strict action will be taken if negligence or violation of rules is found,” he said.
