According to the Dehra SP office, the accused was allegedly involved in heroin (chitta) smuggling in the area and facing serious charges, including trapping youth in drug abuse. Three FIRs under the NDPS Act had been registered against him, two at Rakkar and one at Amb police stations.
SP, Dehra, Mayank Chaudhary said that following intelligence inputs, technical analysis and in-depth field investigation conducted by the district police, Dhiman was found to be involved in drug peddling repeatedly even after obtaining bail from the court. “On the basis of solid evidence and facts, a detailed proposal for his detention under the PIT-NDPS Act under Section 3(1) of the PIT-NDPS Act was sent to the Himachal Pradesh Government through the police headquarters. The Secretary (Home) issued an order for his detention for three months,” he added.
The SP said that the Rakkar police formed a special team that detained the accused from his native village and sent him to the District Jail at Dharamsala for the next three months, as per the detention order. He added that earlier too the police had obtained such detention orders against eight habitual drug peddlers in March and detained them in the district jail for three months.
